Some facts about your newborn baby:

·They may sleep 17 to 19 hours a day.

· Sleeping should be done on their back .

·No stuffed animals, pillows or fluffy blankets should be placed in the crib.

·The baby's head wobbles if you don't support it.

· They need to be held while being fed.

· They like to sleep in a cool room (72-74 degrees).

· They like to suck, even when not feeding and not hungry. They like a certain amount of non-nutritional sucking daily. So sometimes when they are sucking it doesn't mean they are hungry.

· They are scared by bright lights, loud noises, and rough handling.

· They often keep their hands in fists and sometimes can't let go of things placed in their hands.

· They like looking at faces, shapes, and outlines. Sometimes their eyes may not work together. This will get better as they grow. 

· Their breathing is very erratic, sometimes they breathe fast for a few minutes then slow, then fast again. This pattern will become more regular as they grow and mature.

·Their muscles may "twitch" as their nervous system is maturing.

· They can only see short distances at first.
